  1. > ““I’m not afraid to run (with the) talented roster of players that we do have,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said on a video conference call Wednesday. “I think we’ve been consistent with that throughout the entire winter. I’ve been openly willing to challenge anybody that we don’t have a championship-caliber roster and team. It’s our job to try to find ways to make it better along the way.

    >“It’s a different year. We’re looking for a different result, meaning a better result. Stay tuned to see where it takes us. You’ve heard me say many times, it doesn’t matter what we say; it matters what we do.””

Uh huh sure. Keep telling yourself that. No but actually, their fans expectations are just way too high, they’ve put together good teams and just had bad-ish luck in the postseason

Are they better than the team who lost to Toronto in October? No.

Are they better than the team that started Carlos Corasco and Marcus Stroman for months while starting Oswald Peraza for half a year at third and missed a bye by one game? Yes

The offense isn’t the issue. The issue is that they haven’t gotten more starting pitching or fixed the bullpen, which sucked donkey cock in the ALDS against Toronto last season.

Does it make me a homer to say I agree kinda

Like, this team is still really good, and it’ll still compete.

I’m not gonna sit here and say we got unlucky, nor will I say changes don’t need to be made, but like, it would be moronic to completely upend the ship or make a drastic roster change when you already have the core to win.

If this core has proven it can win and compete at the highest level consistently, changing it for the sake of it makes no sense.

I also believe that, given some luck(as is always needed in sports) , and good performances in the playoffs that the Yankees can win the World Series.

I also believe most Yankee fans don’t understand baseball past numbers in a contract and whether someone is popular. The concept of roster building is lost on them ironically as they constantly complain that the roster sucks dick.

Everyone is going to clown on this because it’s the Yankees, but they did win 94 games last year.

Plus, for whatever flaws Cashman has he’s consistently done a good job at making upgrades at the deadline. I don’t mind taking our chances then instead of shopping this weak market.

(I would’ve liked for him to pay up for Peralta, but that’s spilled milk under the bridge.)

Looking around there wasn’t much that really could have been done. Maybe some depth moves in starters but infield was kind of set and it was bring Bellinger back.

The best offense in the league plus Cole is pretty great on paper. Wish we would add more to our bullpen though.

I can’t stand the Yankees but it’s so funny to me that every year they’ll win like 95 games and lose in the ALDS and the media & parts of the fanbase treat it like they need to fold the franchise and start anew.

Having Gerrit Cole back is like signing an ace from last year’s team.
