Who could play for these countries that aren’t? Just curious what the alternative is.
Brother I think you are taking the WBC a bit to seriously.
Players can play for countries who share their heritage. They want to play in a tournament representing a country that aligns with their family’s history and heritage. Where’s the harm? It’s not like those countries have a surplus of professional talent born within the confines of those countries.
New to international sorts competitions?
Baseball is an American sport just catching on outside of our hemisphere. The more the merrier. WBC is a celebration of the sport, there’s no « joke » fielding a team with expats and colonial citizens. It’s a celebration. No gatekeeping.
This is normal in a lot of sports. It’s VERY normal in soccer. It’s how the Olympics are running right now for a lot of hockey teams too.
Excluding the countries is a worse idea because it sets back the progress of the sport. You’d hope that over years their inclusion would strenghten the sport in those countries, then it would pay off. Until then, this is what you get.
What’s the surprise? Nobody plays baseball in Europe outside of Czechia.
Who cares? It’s an exhibition.
Otherwise it would just be all independent league players and the scores would be 80-1.
Name 3 baseball players from Britain that should’ve made the team. Honestly, name one. 🤣
