Clearly a catch, but from the distance I can see how they’d say it was a trap instead.
I can see why they the call wrong. The way it bounced up into the glove made it look like it hit grass first but he got leather under it.

Unless the umpire had some kind of Ultra-IA vision glasses on him, from the distance the way it bounced into the glove can be looked at like it hit the ground first, so it’s a common mistake
If you slow it down it’s really close it sort of looks like the ground is helping but also looks like it bounces of the edge of his glove
Devastating for the pitcher’s WHIP tho. I’d be furious if I was him and they didn’t challenge the catch ruling! /s
