This is obviously extremely embarrassing, Cruz did him zero favors behind him, but it still makes sense. No point in risking injury by keeping him out there for more pitches, off day tomorrow means this won’t tax the bullpen at all in a meaningful way…just eat the dud and move on to the next. This looks worse since it’s Opening Day.
