I don’t know if the Reds gaining +1.94 runs on challenges is going to be the gold standard or something we see every other day

Pretty crazy that the ABS system likely was the difference maker for the Reds winning. But I guess it makes sense if you have a horrible umpire and teams are going to use challenges in high leverage spots to their advantage.

This also doesn’t include the check swing appeals that CB denied multiple times for the Sox.
How does an ump have an ego and suck at his job

That #2 call was brutal. Ended the Red Sox rally and it was like a mile off the plate. Bucknor needs to retire.

It’s wild that being accurate 88% of the time is that bad for umps. It might have been the worst game I’ve seen called.
He never checked with the base umps on check swings, he looked offended whenever ABS was used, and then he was just plenty awful at calling balls and strikes. I get a few misses here and there, but being so consistently terrible was insane to see.
I expect MLB to do nothing about it, of course.

This doesnt count the multiple time he fucked us on check swings.
The game within the game with Bucknor will be be holding onto challenges and riding out his dogshit untill key moments. The Reds absolutely nailed that last night so good for them

One of the worst games I’ve ever seen.

CB with the strike zone equivalent to basketball teams deciding “they can’t whistle us for every foul we commit”

CB games need at least 10 ABS challenges minimum.

72% accuracy on strikes should be grounds for termination

Going 5/5 in challenges is insane.

Teams have already gamed out when to use – just like football teams did with the two point conversion.
There is a mathematical tipping point in certain situations where it is a no brainer to use and a no brainer to not use.
The ABS system will be completely technical in the next decade.
Simple example. 3-2 count ninth inning game tying run on base, there is no reason (for offense or defense) to not throw up a challenge in that case, it’s mechanical and that’s where I see ABS going.
It will be interesting, this year, to see who is really good and really bad at it.

I’m really curious about how the averages (accuracy, number of challenges, missed opportunities, etc.) will play out as we get more games/stats. It’s fascinating to me, and I like the addition to the game.

When you see cards like this then you wonder why they don’t just make it a fully automated strike zone.

one possible benefit of ABS is it might make shitty umps like CB sad enough to call it quits
