Im going to bet he asked for a few extra cents to put towards the roster, and the Pohlads had to act fast to shut that down
If there isn’t some big scandal with Falvey about to break, then this is just monumentally stupid timing and showcases a complete lack of leadership, planning, and operational knowledge in the Twins org.
I bet you he asked for a few bucks to go and get a reliever or show signs to the fans that they were indeed willing to compete at all, and the Pohlad’s told him no and he walked out. I wouldn’t blame him if that were the case.
Falvey should have been fired a long time ago if this was a normal organization that planned to compete. However to do this now, after he hired the new coaching staff and « ran » free agency is odd. He always had his hands tied with salary slashing, and was a good soldier through it all for the Pohlads. Figured he would stay because its probably hard to find someone else that will tank their reputation to help the orgs bottom line. Something had to have happened behind the scenes.
Probably just got to his breaking point with the limitations on the baseball side and assuming stress of the business side. Mutual termination just sounds nicer than quitting.
