I’m curious about the last bit – what happened prior to this when batters were hbp?

so they had a pitch clock in 1901…. interesting.

The foul ball part is fascinating for the intent to punish batters for fouling off good pitches.

What a lot of people didn’t know is that games were shorter in time frame than in the modern era. My dad used to tell me games in the 50s were around 2 hours long. Then they jumped to 3 hours before the start of the pitch clock recently

Banishment seems pretty strong. Just say “fuck” one time and it’s off to the shadow realm.

I really with the umps had to say “ YOU ARE BANISHED” when tossing someone

  7. I’m curious as to what was happening to Umpires (and the thrown pitch) when catchers could play wherever they wanted lol.

They tried changing the foul ball strike rule in one of the affiliated indie leagues a few years ago and the games got *really* short.
