no mainly because no known steroid users are in and if one does get in first it definitely should not be Sheffield

60+ WAR is good enough for me. He has my vote.

This is the same Hall of Fame that has Harold Baines, right?
He’s in.
Suspicious-Sleep5227
It boils down to whether or not he used PEDs. On the stats alone, there’s no question he qualifies. I believe he did not. Therefore he gets in. He just doesn’t seem fit the profile of a baseball player who used them.

Plus, one of the coolest and most menacing batting stances ever

Easily.

Absolutely. No question.

Yes. No one emphasized WAR during his era so I don’t even see that stat as worthy of discussion here, he put up insane offensive numbers and was one of the most feared hitters of his day and did this for a sustained amount of time.

His batting stance alone puts him in…imo
Ok_Fish285
He should be guaranteed just for his iconic batting stance alone
CanadianFalcon
On numbers, he gets in.
On steroids, he said he used a steroid given to him by Barry Bonds, and he was in the Mitchell Report, so he’s out.
bearmastersupreme
Leaving out the most incredible stat, look at his strikeouts compared to contemporaries like Vlad or even Harold Baines

Having watched his whole career, not having an MVP hurts, but when you are in that many all-star games (even if it’s sometimes a popularity contest), then that tells me across a decade you were among the top tier players. He got his WS ring in 97, and I’m still of the era where 500 HR / 3000 hits / 300 wins are equal automatic locks for induction, so I put him in via veterans committee, but not 1st ballot.

No WS win no hall of fame ticket ,sorry I make the rules.

Sure why not

Might be the best « hitter » who isn’t currently in the hall, and didn’t do steroids.

No question. The HOF is about the history of baseball. To the baseball community, Gary Sheffield is a household name and did a lot for the game. His batting stance alone is HOF worthy.
psykikk_streams
yes. and along with him all the other great players of that area that posted similar or even better career numbers. this hall and the sudden call for « clean » players is absurd.
and the commissioner that let it all happen and turned a blind eye while those PED users saved the sport gets in the hall of fame ? honestly ? if thats not messed up then I dont know what it
why not take out all the 60´s / 70 ´s / 80 ´s players for taking meth and other shit just to stay focused (and improve performance)

The Hall of Fame has become a joke…it’s not supposed to use statistics as its only criteria…Sheffield was very good..probably a lot better than people thought he would ever be…but he’s not quite HoF caliber..better than Harold Baines 😂
