This feels practically pointless
This guy is trying to get a contract next year. How dumb would it be for him to go out in the WBC and throw out his arm before the season even started? I get it 100%.

I haven’t been following this story that closely, but this feels like maybe Skubal wanted to play for Team USA, the Tigers were ready to tell him no, and they decided to work towards this stupid compromise instead of just deciding who was gonna get their way

Lame as fuck. Skubal is a scrub for not just committing to either playing or not playing
Pretty logically inept to be upset with him about this. Everyone would have felt all warm and fuzzy if he just didn’t do it in the first place, which makes no actual sense. He’s contributing 55 pitches vs the alternative which is zero. Just “feels” like he’s being picky or whatever. If the staff for team USA actually felt like this was pointless then they wouldn’t have given him the spot. Clearly this was the plan all along and they consider any input he can have worth the time. Just a weird, disconnected personal relations issue with this whole story that just does not track if you dissect it any further beyond the initial reaction. You’re getting some Skubal vs no Skubal; this whole “he should’ve just stayed home” sentiment does not make sense.
While I’d rather he pitch more, I don’t think it’ll be a huge issue. Skenes, Webb, and probably Boyd will start the other games in pool play, while the knockout rounds will probably be Skenes, Webb, and Ryan (since he can be added later from the pitcher pool). Obviously Skubal is at least the 2nd best pitcher of the bunch, but it’s by no means a deviating loss to team USA given the rest of the roster.
It would be so amazing if GB beat the USA
