Realistically couldn’t have asked for much more than that, but I didn’t want to be realistic.

  2. theaussiesamurai

Damn imagine if they make that routine double play and get out of the 7th unscathed.

It’s also a shame they allowed Japan those insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th but the Korea game would have always been the priority. I think they’re a very good chance of beating Korea but they just need to keep the Korean hitters quiet and they should still advance even with a loss

  3. Alpaca_For_President

nothing to be ashamed of from the aussies but without that error in the 7th it’s a completely different game

also our two biggest lead off hitters going 0-4 did not help

  4. ShiroGaneOsu

2 back to back homers to bring it to a 1 run game only for it to end on the very next next pitch.

Still, great match between both countries.

  5. Salvalicious252

Australia has been extremely impressive all tournament

  6. AdAcceptable3850

Japan almost did the funniest thing ever… glad they pulled it through though, as they should.

  7. Eternal_Arch1010

There’s a saying among NPB fans: « I trust Taisei to hold a one-run lead over anyone else. Two or three run lead? That’s another story. »

  8. Agninir

Best game we could hope for, come back tomorrow and sweep SK for the win.

  9. Lozzanger

I know this was the most likely outcome but we were SO CLOSE. We outhit Japan!

    Coulda woulda shoulda.

  10. tassiboy42069

As a Japanese Australian that match made me feel like shit:

The game shouldve been dominated by Japan, but instead australia almost won which made me want them to win especially with those last 2 runs. All for a nonbearing outcome for Japan.

  11. world_greatest_con

Aussies should be proud. Such a solid team.

  12. Choice-Complaint-327

Anyone know what they were all standing around clapping for at the end?

  13. ps2sanandreas

2 home runs in the 9th. They made it close but ultimately fell short. Damn that was a good game.

  14. Technical-Ad4799

So fucking proud of the boys. Lets beat korea and make some noise in the knockouts

  15. Australia just held one of the big 3 to a one run lead, nothing to be ashamed about

  16. Regular-Dig-2406

If only they had loaded a guy before one of the homers.

  17. SuperMarioBruz

Imagine the shitposts if Australia somehow pulled that out

  18. reborndiajack

I’ve been a fan for a week and I am so proud of

  19. Rox_Potions

WTF was Maki doing there haha.
Japan still won in the end but that game wasn’t great from them

  20. Highfivebuddha

Australia being the only showing that looked like they could beat Japan.

They have a lot to be proud of i think.

If the boys down under keep pitching like this they have a good shot at advancing.

  21. Fun-Raise-3120

Australia has been impressive this tournament

  22. magikarp2122

I understand the IBB to Ohtani to load the bases, but man do I hate it.

  23. TheFireBat

There was a beautiful few hours there where Australia, with it’s failing national league, its struggles with player development and limited talent, could’ve walked out of the Tokyo Dome with a one in a million scalp. GG boys, you really came close.

  24. Famous-Armadillo755

Imagine if they finished that double play. Congrats Team Japan better luck Australia
Australia vs Korea gonna be fire

  25. rorosaur

As an Australian with no clue, that was fun. Thanks r/baseball

  26. Benigmatica

This is one hell of a match between Japan and Australia! Great job for the home team to not only come back from a 1-run deficit. but prevented Australia in mounting a comeback on their own in the 9th inning.

  27. latterdaysasuke

The Aussies are clearly for real, both in terms of pitching and offensive output.

I fear for my wife’s team Korea in their group finale.

  28. pundel01

aus advanced in 23 and likely will this year too, so long as they keep it close vs korea.

  29. l-o-b-f

If I’m an Australia fan, a moral victory is hard to accept. You hit two homers in the 9th. Take away botching that pedestrian double play and Japan doesn’t hit that 2-run homer. You would’ve gone into the bottom of the 9th with the lead

  30. HighKing_of_Festivus

Might have been the best 24 hours of baseball I’ve ever watched

  31. Icybubba

I am all in on the kangaroos at this point.

  32. kpopsns28

As long as Australia can maintain their performance, they absolutely deserved to progress to the quarterfinal by beating Korea tomorrow night

  33. blucyclone

Haven’t been this excited about Australian baseball since the 2000 Olympics. Fuck that was a good game.

  34. waddeaf

Can’t be mad no one including myself expected this game to be close.

Streak of always having home runs continues, pitching unit is solid and gave the emperor a good showing.

Korea still a big test but the lads should be walking into that game feeling good on their chances.

  35. StellaXV

Proud of the Aussies! I managed to convince a couple of my mates to watch the game (first time watching baseball) and it was a blast. Those two homers in the 9th inning was HYPE
