Oh boy, it’s under bus throwing time
Are they opening at Wrigley where Cubs fans just take pictures and not pay attention because I can see WBC being highly appealing under that scenario

Why would you even let this leak out there
I’d absolutely choose starting Opening Day over the WBC. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to prepare for my move to Canada.
Americans can be so lame at times.
People can bitch all they want but this makes perfect sense. Piggybacking is a useful strategy in the group stage, but in the knockout rounds it makes way less sense, since starters can go deeper. Guys like Boys and Holmes would in all likelihood just be riding the bench for the last week of the tournament, just two weeks before opening day.
Guaranteed start or potentially having a coach forget you’re on the team. I kinda get the decision
This seems like a false dichotomy to me but not between starting opening day and staying with team USA…but starting in the rotation at all.
In the WBC he was pitching in the bullpen which is very different from being a starter. He wasn’t able to get stretched out like he’d need. But I don’t know what makes opening day different from any other game the first week here. If he wanted to be in the Cubs rotation he probably wouldn’t have been ready in time if he stayed with Team USA.
Kershaw about to get a call back
You mean the cubs prioritize their opening day starter over a tournament they have nothing to do with? Shocking.
Honestly seems fine either way. Nobody would care if he prioritized the tournament or opening day. You can argue international play is becoming a much bigger deal while the significance of starting opening day has lost about all of its luster.
Given Steele is still recovering not wholly surprising.
