Not sure giving the US a second look at Lorenzen is such a good idea, even if he did dominate the first match-up.
Michael Lorenzen being the final boss was not on my bingo card
Nola starting is really smart for them. He’s definitely their best pitcher. You can’t be greedy in the semis, especially when you are facing a lineup filled with MLB hitters. It’s definitely scary for Venezuela now. It sets up really well for the US, though. The stars are aligning.
Italy really is the Royals vs the World.
That’s Detroit Tigers great Michael Lorenzen, thank you very much.
I will also say that in the past 2 years, Nola’s splits have been pretty extreme according to FIP / xFIP. His FIP has been around 1.6 higher on average vs lefties than righties…and Venezuela’s lineup from the last game only had 2 lefties in it. This is definitely a scary matchup for them
Baton Rouge, Italy’s very own Aaron Nola.
The USA is gonna be massive favorites no matter who wins between Italy and Venenzuela.
Either they get a second look at Lorenzen or get a bull pen game
Or they potentially face Eduardo Rodriquez who had 5.02 ERA last year, Antionio Sentaztela who had a 6.65 ERA or they go for a bullpen game as well.
That’s an awful idea
Aaron Nola, who’s only connection to Italy is his *Great-Grandparents* on his father’s side. Not his father, or even his father’s parents. His Great-Grandparents…
Maybe instead of using countries with 0 baseball talent we divide America into 4 teams and you play for your region and not your 3rd generation removed heritage.
