I am almost always going to bat for the umps. I think fans have gotten increasingly feral against officiating in all sports over the past decade or so with the internet and betting. I’ve certainly taken my downvotes from this sub by siding with the ump’s call on the field over joining the lynch mob about a close call fans decided they got wrong.
All that being said: CB Buckner is an utter embarrassment to baseball in general, and it’s a black stain on the MLB that he’s still employed.
Besides being ass all game it’s the 5th time he’s called a check swing himself without appealing.

One of the worst called games I’ve ever seen. Reds now the leader in the clubhouse with 5 over turned calls in one game. They went 5-0 against him

Maybe my least favorite type of blown call in all of sports. The absolute hubris of Bucknor and other HP umps that do this smh. Never any reason for an HP ump to call a strike on a check swing unless it’s bang on obvious.
There is no way in hell CB Bucknor is better than the thousands of umpires who are in the minor leagues and college ball and high school ball and jv high school ball and middle school leagues and little leagues and tee ball
Having to deal with Bucknor and Scott Foster at the same time of year is absolutely hell
I do think that was an offer, but a call that close isn’t the home plate umpire’s call to make. I only thought so when I saw it from the side.
