Just anecdotally after one series, it was the batters who were squandering challenges for both the Brewers and Sox last weekend. On Saturday, Tristian Peters cost us a challenge early on a pitch that had the entire plate.

I really think a distinction should be made between catchers and pitchers in stats like these. I suspect catchers are much more successful than pitchers.

People were concerned umps would be all in their feelings about this, but it feels like way more players are being embarrassed than umpires (so far). As long as it doesn’t expand to full ABS I think (hope) umps will be perfectly fine with it going forward.

The rate of successful challenged for batters drops to 34% if you exclude calls made by CB Bucknor. CB Bucknor accounts for 18% of all successfully challenged strikes through the first three games.

Personally I think we should remove challenges and review every strike 3 called or ball 4. It would make things easier and it gets pitches that cause results correct.
