Interesting… I think I prefer having the players initiate it, especially for the sake of transparency in the age of sportsbooks taking over sports
None of those were strikes
Lol that’s ridiculous. Please no
yeah, I’m not a fan of that.
Nobody really wants an objective strike zone. Give the umps the info and let them use it as they see fit.
I don’t get it. Is the point that there’s something malfunctioning in the system? They should just fix that.
“I can’t wait for full ABS” then it’s this
Reminds me of ai
I like the ABS and how you can have only so many challenges while still leaving the human ump in the game.
In terms of this, none of these were strikes.
If I remember correctly MLB tested full automation in the minors and both players and umpires hated it, so they went with a challenge system.
Yeah…a lot of those were really bad lol
Most of those were just horrible framing, because framing isn’t a thing with a fully automated ABS system.
I feel like the catcher is trying to deke the batter instead.
This is what full ABS people want? Lmao
Gotta be honest, this looks pretty terrible
So a lot of these videos did happen in the minor leagues. Like a 12-6 curveball that hit the ground would be called a strike. But MLB has corrected it by making the strike zone more of a 2-D rectangle that goes up the middle of the plate.
This video is probably a time where ABS (or whatever this version is) was more of a full 3D version of the plate. If it even knicks the 3-D plane they say it’s a strike.
I’ve never seen a catcher balk before
A lot of these looked bad because of catcher’s framing but they’re objectively strikes. Full ABS will definitely make things more fair.
Wow, these are WILD
As soon as they don’t have to frame, the catchers are getting their tap dancing shoes on.
For years I’ve been saying that fully automatic ball-strikes would take away from the game…and people crying about umpires would shun me for it. Now look at this comment section full of people who love the drama and *human element* of players initiating challenges. People really don’t know what they want
