    Full translation:

In the Dodgers vs. Yankees game at Dodger Stadium, Mark, the majority owner of the Dodgers, pulled Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, and me aside and said, “Come on, I’m going to give you guys a tour of what we’ve done around the stadium.”

As we walked, I asked, “Mark, what’s up with this construction here?” He replied, “It’s for Ohtani. After the season, we sat down with him and asked what we could do to help him get even better. We said, ‘Shohei, is there anything you believe we should do?’ Ohtani told them, “If we had more batting cages, I think I could be a better hitter.”

I was surprised and asked, “What do you mean?” He explained, “Yeah, being limited on the batting cages, I think if I had more space and more time to practice, I could become a better hitter.”

The Dodgers then invested over $100 million into the clubhouse. They turned it into a Four Seasons. As we toured the new space, I looked over at Alex and Jeter and said, And you guys are over here talking about the Yankees. The Yankees what?

$100 million seems like a lot for batting cages, but I could just be uninformed. Is there any equipment in there that’s crazy expensive?

  4. Can we stop with the bullshit wordplay headlines? They didn’t drop $100m on batting cages because Ohtani asked. They spent $100m renovating the entire stadium. Journalism is so shit these days

It’s easy to look at the crazy money the Dodgers have spent on players and point to that as what causes their success, while that is a big part of it, they have also built an organisation from head to toe that is all about winning. Every part of their organisation, from facilities to their staff is world class and they are willing to invest heavily into it.

  6. Getting this filtered through David Ortiz makes me question the details, but the headline doesn’t even really reflect what he said. It doesn’t say that they dropped $100m just because of what Ohtani said.

Since they already made the contract money back, they’re letting money at this point.
