That’s a *huge* commitment for a guy who hasn’t really proven it at the MLB level yet. Feels like the Pirates are betting hard on upside and trying to lock in cost control early instead of paying later if he breaks out.
Could look genius in a few years… or one of those contracts people bring up as a “what were they thinking?” move. Curious how fans feel is this confidence or just another gamble?

Maybe Cleveland will wake up and sign their players
He literally got called up a few days ago.
Crazy to think that Skenes will have to wait years just to make what a guy who debuted last week is guaranteed. Obviously he could sign a contract too but we all know he’s going to be making much much more than Griffin when he eventually does
Is this real life
Kinda crazy that these contracts are being thrown around these days when a guy barely has a cup of coffee in the Bigs. Good for him and I hope it pans out for Griffin and the Pirates.
I know it was previously reported, but I was starting to get nervous.
I really gotta hand it to the Pirates on this one. They didn’t fuck it up
y’k even if konnor doesn’t end up being a superstar, i’m glad that the pirates’ FO was willing to offer an extension. considering how cost controlled bob nutting and his team can be, this is a step in the right direction to make them more competitive
He’s still gonna be a FA at 28 and if he lives up to the hype, might be the first $1B MLB contract.
Over the decades I’ve been a baseball fan, there have been so many “can’t miss” prospects who did absolutely nothing at the big league level and fizzled out. This concept of signing players who have just started their MLB career or have never played at the big league level is kind of ridiculous. But, it’s not my money, so if these teams want burn money like that, go ahead.
he’ll have played for 9 years and still hit FA before turning 30
It’s really a 3 year extension in terms of team control, not diminishing the deal.

This seems like it’ll probably be a great deal for the Pirates and there’s very little downside for them.
Is this motivated by the looming CBA expiration or is it also indicative of a new approach? These teams are accepting risk but potentially saving a ton on AAV
Somewhere Boras is curled up in the fetal position crying
Between this and Season 2 of The Pitt, this city is quick rising to the level of Kansas City
Let’s go pirates bros
