He couldn’t have had a worse start to the season than May, could he?
I would have thought he would be a better choice than Dustin May and Patrick Corbin
Yeah, the issue is that he is asking for way more than what other FA pitchers are asking for
His underlying numbers looked terrible last year and he still wants $15M+ when teams can pick up an innings eater like Corbin for 1/15th of the price
(Jermaine Dye intensifying)
Well your value is what the market sets so you either have to lower your price or just not play
So it’s what many assumed, he’s asking for more money than what he is being offered
He is implying that the market and his agency came to similar numbers, but how can that be true?
Perceived value (Giolito and his agent) versus actual market value (MLB front offices) aren’t even close.
Started way too high and no compromises and now we’re here. He’s had no Spring Training and will need at least a couple of weeks to ramp up with his new team and work out the kinks.
I gotta think his elbow injury at the end of last year was more problematic than we’ve seen reported. Otherwise it’s a bit confusing, he’s not an ace but definitely an arm that can be useful to a lot of staffs.
At some point it’s time to think that maybe your value isn’t what you think it is. The *intangibles* that a model can’t take into account
his value is a minor league deal and reportedly his agent wants a 2 year major league contract
