This is always kind of misleading because they were 100 percent considered contenders going into the season but dealt with many injuries early on, this explaining their slow start. It was good they came back from that but they were not an underdog by any means, they were always a better team than their record indicated

That run was special, man. I still remember that home run he hit against Verlander in Game 6 of the World Series. You talk about a BOMB.

  3. Good thing one of the Nationals’ divisional rivals isn’t paying him $765m for his loyalty right now.

When I went to the Braves-Nats game on September 14th and they lost 10-1, I never thought that just a few weeks later, there would be a party in the city again.

The 1914 Braves were more improbable. They were in like last place in June iirc. And unlike the Nats didn’t really have expectations either. I remember at the time everyone being very shocked during that run.

Many people forget, but that Astros team they beat was incredibly talented. They were also down 3-2 I believe and had to win 2 in a row

The Nationals were very solid on paper that year. They had like a top 10 offense + elite starting pitching. They just had a really bad start to the season, but it’s not like it was some crazy underdog team. Their only flaw iirc was that their bullpen was bad, but in the playoffs, you can push your starters a bit more.

  8. We didn’t know it at the time, but the Nationals saved baseball by beating the Trashtros that year 🙌

  9. It was a great postseason to watch. Even as a divisional rival, I found myself pulling for them.

  10. Won 5 elimination games, all come-from-behind victories. All 3 winner-take-all games were 2-run comebacks in the 7th or later, with two of them being in the 8th or later (with both of those being 3-0 comebacks).

Also idk how they didn’t get walked off by Will Smith in the NLDS lol

God, it should have been the expos 🥲🥲

  13. That series was so much fun. Out of nowhere team, The trashcan Astros stuff just broke, the newest superstar establishing himself as the man, the absurd Howie Kendrick celebration, the only time Baby Shark was fun, the schadenfreude of Bryce Harper missing it by one year, and it was the last hurrah before covid.

I mean it was an amazing accomplishment for him, why wouldn’t he?

Our mom was a huge Nats fan who passed away right around the time their season started to turn around – I’ll never forget the feeling when they got that last out. The most ethereal sports moment of my life.

I was in Iraq in the time and couldn’t believe game 7. Will remember that forever.
