that seems like a problem.
He’s alone in a new culture and is struggling. I imagine he’s gotta be looking for more than an interpreter and someone he can fully connect with. Like the old Shohei/Ippei relationship before all the … you know
Hmm. Must be a language barrier.
imai sounds like he’s really homesick. this in combination with all the other news/quotes surrounding him, he just sounds kinda sad and uncomfortable :
Adjusting to America and a language is tough for anyone. First one, it’s okay if he was bad or didn’t get a long but 3rd, Imai is the common denominator. Yoshida has been through a couple but the first one I think lasted his first year.
This dude is nothing but problems. Dodgers dodged a bullet.
I feel the same when I don’t get my beaver nugget fix from Buc-ee’s
biiiiig yikes.
player option excercised in 3…. 2….
I know he didn’t wanna be with any Japanese teammates but I really do wish he went to SF or NY. I think being in Houston only makes being away from home that much tougher.
Feel really bad for the guy, especially since AFAIK the Astro’s have no other Japanese born players for him to try and relate with a bit.
Astros need to trade to bring him in a friend. Maybe trade Loperfido for Kickuchi again.
Probably a big reason why it’s been a struggle to adapt. Yamamoto’s translator is pretty bad at speaking to the media and interview translations, but it has been reported that they are really good friends and that he’s pretty much his assisstant.
I can only imagine how difficult it can be if you aren »t able to connect with one of the few people who you are actually able to speak with when surrounded by a foreign environment.
I don’t know how to interpret this
He acts like he’s the first Japanese player to play on a Midwestern team.
It was probably a mistranslation when he said he didn’t want Japanese teammates. He probably said he wanted many Japanese teammates lol
Man, I really expected more from Dodger fans considering their team is loaded with Japanese players, but they’ve consistently been a vocal minority hating on a guy clearly going through a rough time. Are we really refusing any expression of empathy just to hold a grudge against a team for a near decade old cheating scandal Imai had nothing to do with? I wonder what they said/thought about Ohtani when he was battling through injuries his first three whole years in the league.
*insert gambling joke here*
He was talking pretty brash for a Japanese player coming in and talking about the dodgers and wanting to make his own path so this could be part home sick and part this guy may be a little of a diva.
