Ump said nah I missed that one lemme fix that for you

Who came up with this signal?
Was it the 2nd choice behind « tap bat » or « touch batting glove » or « adjust cup/sack ». Who tf are these people making these decisions.
stlmick
So with this ump, I guess any questioning of a call constitutes a challenge?

Vargas out here playing chess while umps play checkers fr
RobertKSakamano
At some point there will be a challenge to whether the ump’s call that a player called a challenge is accurate. Baseball is getting so dumb. I thought the man on 2nd base in extras was the worst thing ever but now I’m not so sure.

CHANGE THE FUCKING GESTURE ALREADY

« Nuh-uh! He doesn’t even HAVE to tap his helmet! Nuh-uh! Nuh-uh! Poophead! »

lol Vargas was just vibing, not challenging
ThinkSoftware
Task failed successfully

Seems like we’re seeing this almost every game. I think MLB has got to step in here soon and either update the signal or make it a verbal call.
TacoBeefB0y
Is there a reason why they can just verbalize it or is it the same reason you gesture at a blackjack table
FadedToBeige
the funny thing is the Sox were denied a challenge twice in a game this series (might have been this game) because the ump said the head tap wasn’t good enough, and they had to *tell* him *verbally* that they wanted a challenge
St_SiRUS
I reckon he was going to and tried to play it off, but ended up being right anyway
Whisker_dan
why not just look at the ump and say challenge?
GuySchmuy
Good to see the umps using the challenge system
Brady331
Looks to me like he looked at the ump, went for the challenge, then tried stopping himself and playing it off like he didnt.
oogieball
I, uh, meant to do that.

I’m fine with the head tap being the signal, but a guy ought to be allowed to confirm whether or not he’s challenging.
Salty-Cup-7652
Why not make it a two step process, a tap, then a verbal confirmation. If the player is caught looking in the dugout for coaching, then the challenge proceeds.
KinsellaStella
Fucking hilarious.

What about ‘jazz hands’
hangout_wangout
They need to implement that a verbal request be done as well cause this will get to dangerous territory under nefarious circumstances.

Ump missed both the strike call and the challenge call
CapriciousManchild
The signal should you have to put your right foot in then put your right foot out then put your right foot in and shake it all about .
xrv01
the signal for initiating an ABS challenge should be kicking dirt on the Ump’s shoes
BathInternational103
Umpire is double stupid
Burdwatcher
why not just « tell the umpire you’re challenging »?
Burdwatcher
devil’s advocate: what if the ump immediately realized he blew the call and forced a challenge to fix his own mistake?
Spiram_Blackthorn
I think the pmayer should make a circle with his thumb and 2nd finger and use his other hand’s 2nd finger to push through that hole, in and out. That should be the signal. BRB guys
perhizzle
This just in: NBA announces new player initiated replay reviews. A player can initiate a review by bending over and placing their hand on their knees and breathing heavily.
xLykos
Is it so hard to have the umps just ask for confirmation in these instances? Batter adjusts helmet or whatever tf this was, ump asks “challenge?” Batter says no, easy as that

Should use the VAR signal in football
