that’s really whimsical tbh
Ah yes, the reverse Nepo hire
Don « Nepo Papa » Mattingly
Plenty of reason to believe it all goes fine given the track records of those involved?
Mattingly’s a good manager now?
“This is for all the times you made me clean my room”
That’s kind of funny
Don’s either gonna manage out the season or get re-assigned to a different front office role once a replacement is found
Firing your father is gonna make the holidays too awkward
and both of them answer to dave bc he’s POBO if I am not mistaken ?

Don Mattingly? nothing but respect for him but i don’t know if his track record is a great indicator here, that’s kinda the story of his career
Mattingly! I thought I told you to trim those sideburns!
>Manager who’s spent his entire career losing and getting fired finishes his career getting fired by his son
This is like an Arthur Miller play
I had no idea Preston was the GM now, it feels like just yesterday he was just starting in the Padres front office.
Boob says Cora declined the Phillies.
Reverse nepotism at its finest
I doubt Don will be there long.
He’s already on record saying he doesn’t want to manage anymore because of his age and health.
He can hold the fort down for as long as it takes to find a suitable replacement, but don’t expect any more from him than that.
I mean it makes for a good story but, no he doesn’t. It’s Dombrowski’s team, he’s gonna make the call to keep him, he’s gonna make the call to fire him, he’s gonna make the call if they decide to bring someone in and move Mattingly back to bench coach. And he’s the one that would have that conversation. He’s also enough of an old school guy that he’s gonna be the one talking to the manager about the day to day of the team.
Yes, it’s interesting that the GM is the managers son and it is different but it’s not like he’s the one that would hire or fire him.
Nepo-daddy!
Wow
Is that a first or did it happen before that we got Father & Son as GM & Manager?
God the idea of being able to fire your dad is so good
I’d argue that because he’s just the interim, it’s a pretty low stakes situation if Mattingly suddenly goes back to being the bench coach next season. They could spin it as « I came here to be a bench coach and help the manager, not be the manager » and that he’s choosing to go back into the sidekick role.
And if he does stay but is no good, they won’t fire him immediately.
Imagine the season goes even more poorly and he has to fire his dad. Thanksgiving is going to be fucking awkward.
