The most insane thing in this picture is that Barry Bonds never walked in more than 20 games in a row. In 2004 he averaged 1.57 walks per game.

This is bizarre to me. Kurtz is great, but verging on WW2 records and tying with bonds is insane. 22 in a row for the record feels crazy low.

THE Roy Cullenbine?

With our bullpen, I can almost assure that he will hit 22 this weekend.

Athletics just live for 20 game streaks

Curious if any ABS challenges made the difference in maintaining this streak.

Fun fact: From 1945 to 1947, This was Roy Cullenbine’s statline:
15 bWAR, .271/.420/.459/.880 (rounded) for a 143 OPS+. He had 338 walks to 126 strikeouts and had 57 home runs, hitting a career high 24 in 1947. But he never played in the majors again.
Why? Because in 1947 despite the impressive advanced stats that they didn’t have back then, his batting average was an unusually low .224, after hitting .335 in 1946. He was basically waived/traded to the Phillies, with a (exaggerated) claim from the Tigers that he had cost them 15 games that year due to his low batting average and not being able to adjust well to 1B (even though modern dWAR said he was a +0.1 that year, for a first basemen). On his new team, he allegedly showed up overweight to spring training and lost the starting job to a young Richie Ashburn and he was released and never played again. Also played a part of it was that executives didn’t particularly like him

Will pitchers throw him meatballs so he doesn’t break the record?
DontStepOnMyManHood
Pitchers are living on the edges with him. Throwing a bunch of off speed slop down and down away.
Still for a guy who swings and misses a lot this streak is pretty impressive.

Congrats to Kurtz. I have a great feeling more records are coming
