Bill Miller: « You have to hop on one foot and rub your belly while tapping your head to challenge that, Jonah. »
Jonah Heim: « I was trying to keep the runner at 1B, Bill. »
Bill Miller: « I don’t make the rules, bud. »
Bill made that choice the minute that ball got away. Lmao so dumb.
How do you expect a catcher not to react to a ball that got away with a runner on 1st lol
The Pirates had this happen and they let him challenge. It sounds like we need to have a meeting amongst the UA on what the rule actually states
This is some serious bullshit. It’s a live ball. Is the catcher supposed to signal for the challenge while he chases after the loose ball? I think the ump was just mad that Heim already showed him up by successfully challenging the third pitch of the game and he didn’t want to look dumb again.
umps make more highlights than actual baseball plays. nothing but rage bait. it’s almost like the umps r taught this way
It’s wild they never considered the outlandish possibility that an MLB catcher might fumble a potential strike
Still that sliver of subjectivity to destroy credibility.
“You think I’m gonna let him make me look like an asshole when he took more than 1.4 seconds to tap his head?”
~ The Ump, probably
Pretty clear rule. Not sure what Jonah is surprised about.
Unpopular opinion: If your job is to catch the ball, is it so unreasonable to expect you to handle a catchable strike if you want to challenge it? It wasn’t a wild pitch. It wasn’t spiked. He just missed it.
I see people start gaming this from now on. WP a foot away from the zone with a man on third, immediate reaction should be to challenge the play. As a result, ABS initiated and no advance!
You’re supposed to be allowed to challenge until the end of the play. The umpire got this wrong
