Oh damn, I didn’t realise you gotta swing that far

  2. I like it if only because we can see the definitive dotted line, which would go a long way to inform fans what a check swing hold vs swing actually looks like in the same way the strike zone on TVs do

Jeez that is a bad call by the ump. The degree that they consider to be a swing is already extremely generous to the hitter as is lmao

I don’t think the 2nd base umpire has a great vantage point to make that call well anyway.

Wilmer Flores can finally rest knowing justice has been done

feels like a pretty big shift in the check swing rules for this to be the angle used for challenges

My understanding of what constitutes a swing is approximately 45 degrees off it seems

  8. So the mlb rulebook doesn’t actually have a firm definition on what a checked swing is,
but this seems way further than what umpires usually call.

  9. lol that pause before they show it is crazy. Love the cinema of both the challenges

That’s way too far. A bunt doesn’t even go out that far.

I always thought once the bat head was past the front of the plate it’s a swing

    Tf is that line lol

Super excited for someone to badly miss a bunt, only to challenge and get the automated ball call

Buddy swung so far he was already bringing it back around to the other side of his body

anyone know how they technically do this? I assume they have special $30k bats for each hitter that have accelerometers and precise GPS modules that triangulate the position of the bat based off 3 towers placed at strategic points throughout the ball park.

Wait what?! I thought a swing was past the top of homeplate!?
