Oh. Well that’s good, because he shouldn’t.
Article say he claims he never got one (even before the incident with his son throwing at the opposing dugout) because he wouldn’t have passed it. BEFORE the dugout incident
38 seems a little old to learn that actions have consequences but I guess better late than never
Well well well, if it isn’t the consequences of your actions.
> I’m not a child molester, » Ryals told USA TODAY Sports during a phone interview. « I never did that. »
Woof
I’ll take ‘things you never want to see a youth sports coach denying’ for $500
This guy is a real winner.
Really poorly written headline. This makes it sound like he’s saying « I won’t be able to pass a background check now because of this. » What he really said is so much worse: « I was supposed to get a background check to be a coach but I didn’t because I’m a criminal and I wouldn’t have passed even before all this. »
I commented on the initial r/baseball post about the incident that this guy shouldn’t be allowed within 1,000 feet of a youth sports program. Didn’t know just how right that idea was.
I don’t think anyone in this comment section actually read the article lol. It’s poorly phrased but the coach isn’t saying he wouldn’t pass background checks in the future as a result of this incident, it’s saying this incident brought to light that he never actually took a background check to coach because he has a lengthy criminal record and assumed he wouldn’t have passed…
Man what is up with youth sports these days?
How did it both get incredibly expensive and also nobody can be bothered to check if the adult in charge of a bunch of minors, who takes overnight trips out of state with them, is a sex offender?
Was it ever said what the reason was for him having his son throw the ball in the dugout?
Stuff like this always makes me miss Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel
Good.
This part is very disturbing:
« In 2011, prosecutors in Cherokee County Oklahoma, alleged Ryals, then 24, made lewd proposals to a 14-year-old about touching her in a graphic way, according a copy of the affidavit for probable cause obtained by USA TODAY Sports.
According to the affidavit, the girl told a family member, a forensic interviewer and an employee of Help-In-Crisis, a facility that supports victims sexual assault, Ryals had pulled her hair and told her she shouldn’t tell anyone about the incident. »
That is so incredibly wild. I wasn’t allowed to help out a friend from softball I knew for years with her kids Little League coaching staff until I passed a criminal record check. So the fact he was never asked to do one is absolutely wild.
Anyone else mildly amused by the 5 year suspension of a 12-year-old from youth sports? Juuuuust short of a lifetime ban.
« domestic assault and battery »
« allegedly made lews proposals to a 14-year old, pulled her hair »
« Ryals has been subject to six protective orders and between 2007 and 2019 was sentenced for grand larceny, embezzlement and the use of bogus checks, according to court records. »
JESUS CHRIST LOL
Article also says bro spells “micheal” as “Mychal” pretty specifically to avoid being found out for TOUCHING A MINOR. WHEN HES A YOUTH BASEBALL COACH
