He doesn’t need to explain himself. He’s a shit person. We got that.

  2. Careless_Ad162

lotta words to say, « I’m a fuckin bigot »

  3. that’s a lot of words to really say nothing.

  4. It’s weird that it’s never about « God loves all of us ». Just a whole lot of « Me ».

  5. esidarapmot

Jesus woulda hated the money hoarding owners too. Don’t see him writing a bible verse the other 161 games.

  6. Faded_Rainstorm

So you weren’t interested in a Bible verse on your cap any other point this year, right?

    Right.

My biggest question with guys like this – especially in pro sports – do you minister to your teammates that cheat on their wives? Or is it only the pride night stuff that reminds you you’re a Christian?

    It’s because he’s a homophobe and a coward who won’t say it

Whereas these verses from the Gospel of Matthew would be far more relevant to Pride Night:

**36** “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”

**37** Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[[a](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2022%3A36-40&version=NIV#fen-NIV-23910a)] **38** This is the first and greatest commandment. **39** And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[[b](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2022%3A36-40&version=NIV#fen-NIV-23912b)] **40** All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

But there seem to be Pharisees still around us who would rather wield Biblical law as a weapon against others rather than Christ’s redemptive, inclusive, and welcoming Gospel. Christ is Love, and Love always wins.

You know I can respect sincerely held religious beliefs that a person maintains as their own choice and self discipline.

But it is just interesting how in the context of American mainstream Christianity – there’s seemingly no mainstream concern about mixing fibers in clothing, receiving or charging interests in debt banking and credit, or a cheese burger.

You know just from doing what Roupp asks and reading the bible – guy doesn’t seem to mind the jersey he’s wearing not being pure cotton or linen or wool.

Just thought if it was my deeply held religious belief I’d be donating my millions, refusing to wear the synthetic blend jersey and probably take the sabbath off. Definitely no cheeseburgers.

  11. The nerve of this guy to just assume an LGBTQ person hasn’t read the bible 🙄

The thing is, this needs a follow-up question and further explanation, but journalism is dead.

He COULD be saying that he supports the rainbow and everything about what it signifies to LGBTQ+ and pointing out to his own flock that it’s in the bible as a symbol of unconditional love for all. There are people and churches who do that.

Or he COULD be attempting to reclaim it as a God/moral symbol and playing that game where « I love everyone equally but also hope you cure your gayness so your soul doesn’t rot in hell for eternity because that’s my personal belief ». There are people and churches who do that, too.

As it is now it’s just vague enough to piss people off and dog-whistling to people who want to make pride night about Christian God instead.

I will never understand how ‘devout Christians’ feel they can pick and choose from Old Testament rules when it’s convenient for them, while mostly ignoring the New Testament. If you love the Old Testament so much, why not be Jewish?

  14. IllustriousEnd2211

Would these same people be ok with something like a Harvey milk quote on faith and family night the rangers and some of the other teams do?

  15. Disused_Yeti

At least come out and say what you mean rather than dancing around it

  16. Disused_Yeti

Ugh why does he have to shove his lifestyle down everyone’s throats like that!

  17. Right_Ebb_8288

And that is hateful American Christianity at its finest. Take a bible verse that means something completely different, and make it into a personal movement against something. The dudes comment on people reading the bible is just ironic.

  18. Clydealicious

Simple explanation is he’s a moron and a bigot who puts fairy tales over treating other humans with respect.

  19. « not believing » in queer people’s right to exist IS hate btw

  20. How often does he talk about religion or put bible verses on his hate aside from this night? If none, then he’s trying to protest this, and is being a dick.

  21. Equivalent-Fun8113

“It’s just something I kind of believe in you know? When a community is crying out for acceptance I like to shit all over them. It’s just the way I was raised. And I’m just glad I live in a country where I can shit on anyone like. Or don’t like, in this case.”
