What makes this tournament so great are the countries that actually do care about baseball and have it as their main sport. Wbc pulls in In sane l tv ratings in Japan, Korea and Taiwan and it shows when they play

Fans from  Dr,.Puerto Rico and Venezuela create that  » hostile environment » you see in soccer games but is completely absent from the MLB

These are the countries that make the tournament must see TV and not an  » exhibition tournament »

Now would he say the same had he not played in five World Series and winning three?

As someone who’s played in 0 World Series or wbc games. I can’t argue with his answer

  4. evidentlyeric

Well I mean World Series on one continent vs the world classic comprised of the entirety of planet earth. I get the feeling.

We need more voices like Kiké’s. A Fall Classic is every year, a World Baseball Classic just about every 4 years.

Makes sense. He’s from PR not Los Angeles

This might the sentiment shared by most players and fans not from the USA. Not because Americans are not patriotic, but because when your country is almost always the overwhelming favourite to win the tournament, you tend to value it less than a championship from your city. By comparison, I’m sure most MLS fans would rather see the USA win a world cup than their favourite team win an MLS Cup.

Kiké’s right. In the World Series, you see Vlady taking pitches from Yoshinobo Yamamoto. In the WBC, you see a Czech electrician strike out Ohtani. WS rings are nice but those kind of stories are just way more entertaining

I understand Athletes aim to play and win at the highest level. For Basketball and baseball that is the NBA and WS. For the longest there was not much competition internationally in these sports so American players don’t care. This all changed and they created the dream team in basketball and now similar is happening in baseball.

If you ask any international player, most will say they care more playing for their country than winning a WS or NBA champion.

The buzz around it the last few years has been incredible. Every game means something big. Guys get to play for their home country all over the world. What’s not to love?

  11. That’s not what he said. It says what he said in the picture.

is it because he knows the dodgers paid for their ws wins.

I feel like most of the Dodgers players care more about the WBC while the World Series was *everything* to the Jays players. Makes the outcome hurt even more for neutrals.

This is how players should see it.

Meanwhile Skubal is being a bitch about it because he doesn’t want to throw more than 55 pitches.

I swear i don’t remember his face at all

  16. rabidbot

World competitions are just fun. I don’t give one fuck about curling but every 4 years I cheer it on like it’s the only sport that matters

  17. Ferblantierr

Meanwhile Skubal is wrestling his emotions about wanting to be there .

  18. DirtyRatLicker

technically the WBC IS the world series

I’m not super into soccer but I love watching the international tournaments. there’s just something incredible about these people going out there as a representative of where they/their family are from and leaving everything on the field.

it’s the same for baseball too, except I’m a big baseball fan anyway.
