Unfortunate, but that’s probably what needs to happen for him to be ready for opening day, which will be 11 days after the Venezuela game, and guessing he will likely have another spring start before then as a final tune-up.

He’ll be ineligible to pitch in the rest of the tournament anyway if he throws over 50 pitches but this is still so lame. Let him stay with the team. He can workout and throw bullpens in Miami.

Timing wise he wouldn’t be able to start again until after the tournament. He starts on Saturday, final is three days later. That said, he should stay to celebrate with the team, then with Ohtani go back to Arizona.
