That’s not why owners want to « shut down the sport. » But, ok.
lol right, *that’s* why…
They save money not going to Marlins games and can afford the wbc every 3-4 years.
Of course a Dodgers fan posted this (the tweet and the OP)
The Marlins are 29th in attendance over the last 5 years, and 30th over the last 10.
This sub is just going to be Dodgers fans posting propaganda all year, isn’t it?
Just because there’s baseball fans there passionate about their country, doesn’t mean the Marlins themselves have a giant fanbase. Like I want owners to spend more as much as the next guy but like the Marlins objectively don’t make as much profit as the Dodgers or Yankees do lol.
After watching this great baseball tournament I cant help but wonder how much a salary cap would improve it
Idk why people are disputing this. There are tons of baseball fans in Miami and the Marlins do a shitty job attracting them.
Miami has plenty of fans.
The Marlins, don’t.
I’m anti salary cap, but these threads make me lose brain cells
If the marlins spent money and kept the in house talent they developed on the team I have no doubt in my mind that park would be at the very least 80% filled every home game
Well everyone is proving that you only need to play 6 games to be legit. 162 game slog just so a .150 AVG AA hitter can get hot during the WBC and be a legend
Look, the Marlins won two World Series within the first 15 years of them existing, that should be more than enough goodwill, but their ownership is so fucking atrocious that nobody cares
Why does everything have to have a negative spin? This game is so electric and fun, just enjoy it.
👏
A fair point about a specific shitty owner, but not something worthy of extrapolating across the league. There *are* inherent inequalities between LA and NY, to then Philly or Baltimore, and then to somewhere like Wisconsin or Minnesota.
Baseball finally has been getting more popular, and they are going to let this happen and ruin all that progress.
The owners knew this possible lockout was coming, they know it’ll make fans rush to stadiums this year because of a threat of no baseball next year and they want that huge amount of cash. They don’t care about the sport or the fans, just the cash.
What were José Fernández home starts like? Did the city get into those?
This is such a terrible comparison for so many reasons but this sub and the dodgers propaganda machine is going to absolutely eat it up
This is dumb post–even Messi can sell out Dallas in MLS. Comparing the WBC to an 81 game home slate for the Marlins is asinine.
Apples aren’t oranges
Also, this is from a Dodgers fan–OF COURSE he wants to keep the status quo
GIVE US AN OWNER WORTH A DAMN
Marlins have to at least pretend they care about putting up a conistently good product. Do you spend money going to watch b movies?
Imagine if the marlins was able to attract the Latin American fans to their games? They’d have the best atmosphere in the league
6 million people in the Miami Metro
Plenty of fans for a good product
If the Padres can figure it out, the marlins should be able to too
