This US lineup which was constantly praised and talked about as a death star lineup was shutdown in this tournament by a:
* 17 year old
* Farmer who hadn’t pitched since the last WBC
* Single-A guy named Tugboat
* Various other perennial minor leaguers
* A guy with a career ERA of 4.19

I’m so happy for Daniel Palencia.
The amount of of work he put in has been insane. Two seasons ago, he didn’t even seem to be a reliable pitcher for the Cubs. He threw 100+ MPH but it seemed to be out of the zone or right down the middle for a HR. But last year, he settled down, got his control, and started to show his potential. And now just closed out the WBC final. I hope this is the start of a great season for him.

I was rooting for Japan earlier in the tournament but this was an amazing WBC all around.
Congratulations to Venezuela on behind the best team in the world despite not having had a peptalk by the Bin Laden-killer, despite not having joined the Air Force academy, and for not playing baseball like a soulless mega corp.
