More from Jeff: The lack of a club option in Pete Crow-Armstrong’s deal with the Cubs is rare. This is by far the biggest guarantee for a player with five years of club control that doesn’t include an option. Cubs were still fine with it. They get a high-floor player with superstar ceiling.

Should be enough to help him get by

  3. At worst, he is one the top defensive OF in the game. That probably wont fall off by age 31. If he can be a 100-110 WRC+ hitter, he is absolutely worth the money.

Am I missing something? This makes a ton of sense for PCA. But the Cubs essentially gave him a massive raise from 2027-2031 even though he was already under team control just to get a deal on his 2032 season? This is basically a pay increase that grants them one additional year of team control, right?

Edit: PCA was signed through the conclusion of the 2030 season, so it’s two more years of team control.

Stoked for this. Glad the team decided to buy out the arb years for an extra couple prime free agent seasons. Always like seeing good players get paid. Guy will be on NL MVP ballots for years to come. The only question is how many gold gloves he’ll rack up when it’s all said and done.

Isn’t this an incredibly team friendly deal?

Not gonna lie I was hoping this was going to be longer term than that. It’s also 19.2 AAV, which is a great deal for the Cubs.

    Caleb and Connor your next

This is a good deal for Pete. He will get paid well and still hit free-agency in his prime. The deal benefits both sides. He will be the heart ♥️ beat of the Cubs for a while.

Definitely not betting on himself…but betting safe anyway.

That’s a good sign for these punks. Really good player and he is for sure a huge fan favorite in Chicago. When I went it’s damn near the only jersey I seen besides Shota and Happ.

I mean by the time he’s 31 his speed and defensive abilities will have likely fallen off by then. I see this as an absolute steal by the cubs.

« But if you don’t do a deal you could end up getting super-paid by the Dodgers! »

    « Fuck them Dodgers. »

    So it’s basically a 2 year, $50ish million deal?

  14. Redbubble89

It’s market price for PCA. Our Rafaela deal looks like a steal.

Nice to see PCA signing and staying with the Cubbies…can’t believe we traded him for Baez…half a year

  16. AndrewAllStar888

Not bad at all for either side. I’ll treat it as 7-years, $116M since it takes a year to kick in. Pete’s floor is pretty high, so comparing it to something like Roman Anthony’s 8-year, $130M contract, it seems in-line

  17. johnjohnjohn93

Nice deal for both here. Definitely some worry with how bad he was in the 2nd half but at $19 million aav that’s not terrible even if he ends up not hitting.

But if he’s the first half PCA then this is an absolute steal

  18. Tasty-Efficiency-373

Pretty good deal for PCA. I’m not convinced he’s a superstar, but he’s a high floor player that can piece together a great career just on his defensive value. Probably this generation’s Kevin Kiermeier, which is a hell of a ballplayer.

Man imagine he balled out all year. Would’ve guaranteed a big chunk more money
