With the Giants’ LF streak set to end tomorrow, is good to see there’s another streak going strong.

I completely forgot about Domingo Santana and was wondering when in the world did Carlos play the outfield

Lonnie Chisenhall was supposed to be the shit

I don’t follow the Giants closely enough to know if their streak is similar, but I will say this one has as much to do with poor timing/luck as it does with poor play at the position.

In 2017, Lonnie Chisenhall opened the season on the injured list and would have started opening day if he hadn’t. He had a solid 3 year run as the team’s primary right fielder, he just didn’t start on opening day. Same can be said for Tyler Naquin, who was the primary RF in both 2019 and 2020, but opened 2020 on the IL due to a Summer Training (2020 was WEIRD) injury. And then, after starting opening day 2023, Will Brennan was still the primary RF in 2024….but Opening Day was against Athletics LHP Alex Wood, leading to Laureano getting the start.

Not to diminish the streak, but the team has gotten multiple solid years from multiple RF, the stars have just aligned so platooning and injuries have made this streak come to fruition. I’ll still be praying like my life depends on it that Chase DeLauter is healthy on 2027/2028 opening day to put an end to this once and for all.

Collin Cowgill is definitely a name my brain would have lost to time if it weren’t for this post.

The streets will never forget Tyler Naquin

Yankees will be on a 5 year streak on different opening day starter.
