Better than I expected for the first game of the year

Is this using the new relative strike zones?

The ABS usage strategy last night was very interesting. It was obvious that teams/players were very conservative early in the game trying to save challenges for high leverage moments. Which is understandable but those high leverage moments never really came.
There were at bats for both teams early in the game that were impacted by a bad call that might’ve ended differently had a challenge been used and if those at bats end differently who knows what impact they have on the game as a whole.
I didn’t realize it until last night but strategy behind ABS challenges and how it evolves through out the year is going to be huge part of the season.

He could have been way worse & had zero effect on this game. 3 hits is pathetic.

I’d wager we see more aggressiveness from other sides tonight and tomorrow. Last night both sides were clearly waiting for high leverage moments late in the match, but it’s hard to have high leverage when it’s 7-0. I think you’ll see sides start to understand that a 0-0 match in the first 3 frames is more important with higher win % change due to successful challenges than a 7-0 match in the last 3 frames where the challenges are essentially meaningless to the match outcome.

Was mildly disappointed how conservative the challenges were. There was a really obvious one to Judge in his first AB.

Giving Bill Miller the first game of the year was a decision since he’s an ump with a notoriously large zone
