Probably a strike anyway, but it was kind of weird.

The new ball/strike controversy is gonna be the “denied challenge” controversy

Maybe he waited too long? They only get 2 seconds to challenge

Olson moved the same amount that Judge moved and two different decisions.

The “first movement” being subjective will totally cause issues at a critical moment.

I’m thinking maybe he waited a tick too long? They seem quite serious about immediate challenges

I love that umps have the ability to arbitrarily deny challenges

  7. That was at most 1 second after the strike call. It was a strike anyway so it helped this time, but if umps can just decide not to honor challenges then what’s the point.

Umpires can decline it if they feel the challenge came from the dugout instead of the player.

  9. Meanwhile, Salvador Perez has challenged three balls into strikes five innings into the season.

Fuck the challenge system. Go full robo or full human. I don’t care which. whatever the ump says stays , because that’s baseball

ump needs to be faster if he wants the challenge to be fast

  12. Seaweedminer

How does the ump have the ability to do this?

And the ump show continues. There needs to be some updates to the rule to not let umps continue to let their ego run the game, no reason not to let Olson waste his challenge there

This happened yesterday during the Dodgers game. The Ump didn’t allow the Arizona catcher to challenge when he signaled for it.

We need an umpire for the umpires!

Only thing I can think of is that someone yelled something? Or ump thought it took too long?

This is ridiculous and they need to change the rule. Resetting your feet should not count as a movement after the pitch. Olson is just trying to stand comfortably.

Is this basketball now and guys have a pivot foot? The ump might as well have called a travel.

I’m sure it’s not a great feeling having a system that can instantly tell people if you were right or wrong on a call you made…. But you’ve gotta get over it and accept that at the end of the day people want the correct call to be made it’s not an affront to you as an umpire if you get some calls wrong and it gets challenged

If you go by when the ump finishes saying « strike » there is no way that is more than 2 seconds. So I don’t know what the issue is, really they might want to add another second or two cause the umpires are basically going to want them challenging the moment the ball crosses the plate.
