Jimmy mimicking CB’s voice at 5:52 had me dying xD

Calling check swings is just so difficult I can’t imagine calling them correctly consistently. I imagine CB was looking towards Story’s leg to gauge how far extended he went to try and camouflage a checked swing.
I think the only logical next step is clearly and objectively defining what a check swing is and having possible challenge opportunities there as well to make it fair

I liked his explanation at the end of the video about what he called the « shadow zone » and I wish that UmpScorecards would show that as well. According to this scorecard, CB called 197 out of 223 taken pitches correctly, but (according to Jimmy) only 80 taken pitches were near the edge of the zone and of those 80 he missed *20!*. Those are the ones that need an umpire with a good eye. Any High School ump can call the ones 3+ inches inside or outside the zone. Also, if those numbers are correct, that means CB missed 6(!) calls that weren’t even close. I’m not sure how Jimmy defines the « shadow zone » but I think eliminating all the « easy » calls from the scorecard is a good idea.

I want for every 2 overturned you gain 1.
Yes, I know unlimited in theory but as you can see players are hesitant when the ump is this bad that a real bad one in a real ideal situation will show up.

Side note, I know this isn’t 100% accurate, but I swear this is the first time i’ve noticed a situation where both the ump and the catcher are wearing the hockey style catcher’s mask
i feel like all the umps wear the traditional style

Watching this in real time was painful. I do not know how CB makes it through a full season.
