Peewee Reese a dit à Jackie Robinson qu’il voulait que sa famille sache qui il était. Eh bien, malgré son petit surnom, Peewee Reese était un GRAND homme !

Shoutout to Ken Griffey Jr. for making it happen. He pushed so hard for it to be recognized, and he deserves a world of praise for it.

  2. Peewee’s response about the civil war and the look Jackie gives him are gold

Absolutely love seeing the entire league wearing 42 on April 15th. Its a special honor for the man baseball will forever be grateful for.

  4. Every day I aspire to be like Pee Wee here in this scene.

    🫡 They’re all wearing 42 today, PeeWee/Sean.

    Also, RIP Chadwick Boseman.

Just another reason why baseball is so amazing & truly America’s past time.

I absolutely love seeing all these insanely talented players from all different cultures. From White Americans, Europeans, African Americans, Hispanic, Central/South Americans, and now even Asians. It’s just great to see.

I played on that field countless amounts of times, not really the best part of Birmingham, I’m surprised they got out of there without incident…they used to pay a crackhead to drag the field in between tournament games and they used an old Cadillac to do it…great story though!

Not sure if Pee Wee actually ever said this. Maybe he did, idk. But I feel obligated to share the actual story Vin Scully used to tell every year on this day:

*Jackie had received some serious threats against his life, so that when the Dodgers came to Cincinnati, the old Crosley Field, they had riflemen on the rooftops and on the roof of the big laundry building back in left field. It was serious.*

*And before the game, the Dodgers held a meeting in the clubhouse. And everybody, understandably, was tense. This was really serious.*

*And they had an outfielder named Gene Hermanski, who suddenly broke the silence by saying, « I’ve got it! »*

*And everybody stopped and said, « What? »*

*And Hermanski said, « We’ll confuse them. We’ll all wear number 42! »*

*Well, everybody broke up and it released the tension and they went out and played.*

*But little did we know there would be a day where indeed, like Gene Hermanski, we’ll all wear number 42.*
