USA Today’s mobile website is also a complete disaster.

I’m a native New Yorker who grew up in the Bronx, but I never hated or even disliked the Mets. Went to Mets games throughout childhood and rooted for them against NL teams.

The subway series becoming a twice a year changed that, but losing Soto to the Mets really made them feel like a rival.

I now smile whenever I see a headline like this.

It’s 2026 MLB. Soto coming back and a good May may result in a mediocre 85 win season. Good enough for a wildcard.

The mets always a mess. Are you new to the sport?

Meanwhile I was over here thinking the Cardinals wouldn’t get their tenth win until mid May.

Don’t fret NY, Bo takes a bit to warm up every year but soon enough he’ll be driving Lindor & Soto in every time they get on base.

  7. 16 games in and it’s the end of the world for the Mets. Come on, you know they will make the playoffs and dominate as the season progresses. It’s not like my Pirates that are winning games but as soon as the all-star break is over will dive for the bottom.

you love to see frank melting down over it every reel is a gem now

I legit hate David Stearns to an unhealthy degree. I don’t know if non-Mets fans realize this, but there was a two month period last year where the team was punting games every 5th day and starting guys named “Chris Devenski” and “Blade Tidwell” because they were convinced that Frankie Montas and Sean Manaea were going to save the season. They also did this while Nolan McLean was carving up hitters in the minors, and waited until the last possible day to call him up because I guess they don’t want to pay him early. You also can’t give me that “he wasn’t ready” shit when Benge got called never having played a single game in Triple A and now his OPS is in the .400s.

If Stearns signed good pitchers and they got hurt, I’d say “alright, that’s life”, but he built a rotation around journeyman who have sucked their entire career expect for maybe one season, and they end up playing as you’d expect them to.

Now, he’s somehow done the same thing but with position players. Semien is unplayable (but I guess Nimmo is going to be more unplayable in 3 years so I guess this is somehow a win), and Polanco, a guy with a history of leg issues that prevent him from playing the field, has an Achilles injury from playing the field.

  10. The Mets flailing is the ultimate public service for baseball fans. It makes so many people happy that it becomes a net good in the world.

LOLMets have levelled up. Now they are LMAOMets

  12. Skittleavix

I felt bad for Bichette during his debut with the Mets.

  13. kidnamedfinger1000

Thank you Mets for taking the heat off of us

  14. invertedMSide

So spending money and LOSING isn’t bad for baseball, got it

  15. missourinative

The Mets being a mess is not a disappointment, or a surprise.

  16. Ok_Whatever999

One post on Twitter from a Mets fan summed it up: “This organization (referring to the Braves) was bad for ONE year in which they magically spawned the second coming of Mike Piazza and now they are back to their regularly scheduled devil work I will never experience happiness”

Hey I’m just as surprised as everyone else at what the Twins are doing; but I want to know when we’re officially in _Major League_ territory so I can get my cardboard stand-ups of the Pohlads ready.

  19. ILikeCarrotcakes

Bro it’s still April: a lot of teams aren’t living up to expectations at this point

  20. Honestly the mets arent unexpected, they just always find a way to bottle pretty unloseable scenarios

  21. Annual_Document6930

what surprises me is how that person can jump to such a conclusion so early. Not even taking into account the fact that the season is only 11% over, and the strength of that roster suggests that this is a likely playoff team at the end of the season

I mean, how many other strong teams are off to a rocky start?

Blue Jays, Red Sox, Mariners, Phillies, Cubs, and then even the Tigers can be included in that as well, as they just now struggled back to .500 from their lousy start themselves

so are all these teams a mess too, just because of crappy starts?

if this person who wrote that drivel is that shallow and narrow sighted then they’re not worth the read anyway.. and sure as hell nobody to get worked up over

  22. Theyre an absolute mess. They replaced fan favorites with inferior players. Bad for both business and baseball. It seems clear that Lindor is super distracted. He likes the opposing players more than his teammates. None of their young players are working out. Yes, they were in a rut then faced the Dodgers in Dodgers stadium. It isn’t ideal. But they seem to make mistakes every other inning of the game

  23. Adventurous-Tea-876

Throwing money at your roster doesn’t solve everything. The Mets prove that every season.

  24. bvanbove25

As a Rays fan, I’m pleasantly surprised. We should have a couple more victories if our bullpen didn’t implode, and usually our pitching improves throughout the year once guys settle in. With Caminero starting a bit slow, and even once Yandy (probably) comes back down to earth a little, Simpson has added a huge jolt of life into the lineup that I hope will hold.

  25. SJCitizen

The Pohlad family were heroes this entire time, I just couldn’t see it.

  26. HumbledMind

As a Dodgers fan I’m grateful for the Mets as they are the ultimate counter to the “buying championships” allegations.

  27. Nole_Train

As a long time Mets mocker this is not a surprise at all
