I have to wonder since the pitcher, not being involved in the play, could have challenged immediately that is why he was denied, where as if Higgy who had to make the throw tapped his head he would be granted the challenge

As a mariners fan, Quantrill deserved a challenge.

It never occurred to me that this is something that could happen, getting distracted by a steal and forgetting to challenge the call

And what if it was the catcher that wanted to challenge but also has to try to throw out the runner, he just doesn’t get to?

I feel like catchers throwing on stolen base attempts should be an auto ABS challenge, since thats when the ump would need the most help.

They don’t get to wait for the play to be over to challenge? How could that be too long? They aren’t going to pause for challenge *during* a live play.

  6. They should have been able to challenge. I haven’t found a full written set of rules, but the [Q&A on MLB.com](https://www.mlb.com/news/abs-challenge-system-mlb-2026) says they can challenge at the conclusion of the play:

    >**How long do players have to issue a challenge?**

    >Immediately after the pitch (roughly within two seconds). If there is an ensuing play (such as a checked-swing appeal or a play involving a runner), the challenge may be made at the conclusion of the play.

makes sense, you can’t just be waiting 3 minutes to try and challenge

    Easy solution:

    Catcher- what was the call?
    Ump- ball
    Catcher- *challenge*

Honestly, it looks like thats exactly what happened.

  9. Bro challenged while the play was still live. How is that too late? If anything it’s too early bc the play hasn’t ended

Ouch I hope that umpire has someone tell him he should have accepted the challenge and I hope that he personally apologizes to Quantrill.

I was wondering how long it would be until this happened.

What woulda happened to the runner if Blue allowed the ABS Challenge and the pitch was reversed to a strike?

He goes back to 1B and 2 outs right?

New tactic: steal 2nd on ball 4 to try and distract the catcher/pitcher from challenging in time.

How hard is it to use common sense and just get the damn calls right? Throwing up roadblocks on technicalities is so stupid.
