POV: Dave Raymond in the booth as Bacsik keeps adding more

« Did you have a good relationship with your father? Me neither »

  3. see_mohn

Normal way to say that: he should throw a brushback pitch or two

The guy who gave up 756: he should impale his foes for having the temerity to play baseball against him

  4. unethicalposter

That was a little on the cringe side

  5. Ill-Weather-6383

Oh man you cut it off right before it landed in the stands too lmao

  6. LuckyShirt54

Another former Nat filmed in the wild….

  7. Antithesys

Bert Blyleven was our color man for a while and his catchphrase was « hit ’em in the ribs. »

I miss Bert, and I’m sure the nation’s CTE specialists do too.

  8. Imagine being such a soft and sad person you have to hurt another person just to make you feal better that they are better than you at a game.

  9. rokuvaty

As a Rangers fan, this is embarrassing as hell.

  10. twofeettwoarms

MORE IMPORTANTLY, THAT’S NOT A ZERO

  11. DudleyStinksUntil7

It’s the guy who gave up the home run to Barry Bonds. There’s his entire legacy.

  12. Ah the Nolan Ryan approach.

    Fitting for the Rangers.

  13. Ghost2Eleven

Pitchers are psychotic. So no surprise here.

  14. This-Appointment-666

What a freaking psycho. He’s giving out pitching advice the same way people who physically punish their kids do. Like back in my day my dad would beat me, and look how well I turned out.

  15. Old_Quiet4265

What a POS. Unironic abuser mentality.

  16. redditsucksdeezNts

Mike is so fucking annoying and one of the worst commentators we’ve ever had. Hes always either complaining, making shit jokes, or mentioning useless things. Hope they fire him after this season

  17. gmoneygangster3

He didn’t even say hit em, man just got a little to poetic about a brushback

  18. shomosexual

All of us are worth 0.5 WAR more than Mike Bacsik produced in his entire career

  19. DaneTrane22

Maybe throw an off-speed pitch then? Or, you know, be a better pitcher?

Then, the batter should return the favor by throwing the bat at the pitcher.

  22. Sea_Garbage3968

I don’t get what’s wrong with hacking at the first pitch? Budd, if the hack at the first pitch and it’s a pop up or a grounder that’s one pitch one out. Let them swing, throwing at a batter for hacking the first pitch is bush league

  23. calebminor91

I don’t know any Ranger’s fans that enjoy listening to him, couldn’t stand him on the radio station and can’t stand him even more watching my favorite baseball team.

  24. I wish Mike Bacsik wasn’t in our booth. He sucks and is not a good dude.

  25. Odd_Resolution5124

As someone that’s relatively new to baseball, why is this a take? Is this some weird unwritten rule? Why should i not swing whenever i want?

  26. TrumpFucksKids_

I’m always amazed by commentators who talk tough like they were this grizzled veteran and hall of fame calibre teammate, and then you look at their bbref page and Mike Bacsik threw 200 innings over five seasons and was absolutely fucking abysmal, Rod Allen having eleven career hits, etc.

  27. Ahh The Dalton Rushing Special « Fishy »

  28. victory19801

This reporter can’t get out of his dinosaur mind

  29. InspectorTiny1952

Oh, his wiki page is great.

    >Announcing controversy

    >Some listeners have described his voice as high-pitched and « whiny, » noting a tendency to focus on victim-centric analysis regarding umpire calls or opponent hits. He has been described by some critics as « constantly whining and arguing ».

  30. caniaccanuck11

What the heck is with this first pitch swinging whining going on? This guy, the Dodgers catcher, going back to Snell last year in the World Series. I didn’t know batter were supposed to just give the pitcher free strikes to start an at-bat.

  31. MySmellyRacoon

Rangers PR working overtime trying to claim their guy was only kidding.

They’re gonna have to pay you a lot better than whatever you’re getting cuz you suck at your job.

  32. Darth_Candy

I can’t stand Bacsik. Always complaining, always talking vaguely about how analytics make you worse, jokes that never land, and then **this**.

  33. gortlank

Mike Bascik is truly unique amongst broadcasters.

He has a shrill, grating, voice that’s uniquely unsuited to being heard by human ears.

He once called the people of San Antonio “filthy Mexicans”, and was charged for assaulting his son’s little league coach.

He was a big leaguer, but somehow has no particular insight into the game. He’s a part of baseball history purely by happenstance.

He’s not funny or charming, and consistently acts like a child trying to push boundaries.

As far as I can tell, the only people who like this man are the sort who recreationally hit themselves in the head with a hammer. Which is probably why Ray Davis hired him.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, they should put him back on the mound for one inning. Give him all the fanfare of a hero. Then, in partnership with the Ft Worth Zoo, feed him to the zoo animals during the 7th inning stretch.

  34. JustTheOneGoose22

Not the first wild thing he’s said. Dude is not fit to be broadcasting

  35. KevinAndrewsPhoto

Just googled the guy. His career WAR is -0.4.
Not sure throwing at someone’s head over helped him

  36. DesertCoot

“Very comforting to those young pitchers who are already worried” 😂

What is wrong with someone who, faced with a kid sad he hurt another kid, thinks saying “Don’t worry, that kid you hit that is crying hurts a lot more than you right now” will make the kid feel BETTER about it?!

  37. BallsBeast

Isn’t Bacsik the dude who served up Bonds’ 756th? Yeah, kids, listen to this guy…

  38. amijeremy

When I watch a Rangers game, I’m constantly saying “shut the fuck up Bacsik” to my TV the way Walter says “shut the fuck up Donny” in The Big Lebowski

  39. Bullslinger105

I really don’t have an opinion about Basick, but when I recently lived in Fort Worth and could watch the M’s play the Rangers on the local DFW broadcast (MLBTV blackout rules) I loved listening to Dave Raymond do the play-by-play.

  41. lamped86

I can’t believe what I’m reading in here. When I used to pitch, my coach would say our most important job was to make the batter uncomfortable at the plate. I would back them off with a high and inside pitch whenever I felt it was necessary. It was very effective.

  42. I don’t know, maybe just don’t throw a first pitch fastball down the chute.

  43. hammnbubbly

So….Gore throws fastballs early in the count and batters…shouldn’t swing?
