Shohei Ohtani s’est apparemment aligné sur un double jeu pour terminer la manche, mais une hésitation a été appelée avant le lancer à la place pour marquer Max Muncy et porter le score à 5-1 pour les Dodgers (avec rediffusions).

You can’t just be up there and just doin’ a nobletiger like that.

This makes sense because you can tell he balked when he

I’m having trouble figuring out why that was a balk (cue the Bois pasta)

Was it the little hitch that his left knee does before he went into the windup? Muncy and the third base ump pointed it out IMMEDIATELY so my guess is that

When a player sees it it makes a little more sense

Ohtani can literally do anything at this point. I guess home runs got boring

1b. Okay well listen. A balk is when you balk the

    1c. Let me start over

1c-a. The pitcher is not allowed to do a motion to the, uh, batter, that prohibits the batter from doing, you know, just trying to hit the ball. You can’t do that.

1c-b. Once the pitcher is in the stretch, he can’t be over here and say to the runner, like, « I’m gonna get ya! I’m gonna tag you out! You better watch your butt! » and then just be like he didn’t even do that.

1c-b(1). Like, if you’re about to pitch and then don’t pitch, you have to still pitch. You cannot not pitch. Does that make any sense?

1c-b(2). You gotta be, throwing motion of the ball, and then, until you just throw it.

1c-b(2)-a. Okay, well, you can have the ball up here, like this, but then there’s the balk you gotta think about.

1c-b(2)-b. Fairuza Balk hasn’t been in any movies in forever. I hope she wasn’t typecast as that racist lady in American History X.

1c-b(2)-b(i). Oh wait, she was in The Waterboy too! That would be even worse.

    1c-b(2)-b(ii). « get in mah bellah » — Adam Water, « The Waterboy. » Haha, classic…

1c-b(3). Okay seriously though. A balk is when the pitcher makes a movement that, as determined by, when you do a move involving the baseball and field of

-2. Do not do a balk please.

Divine intervention to save us from a NOBLETIGER lol

Did he not tell the umps he was going to use a windup? That’s the only thing I can think of because I don’t see anything.

Here come all the Redditors making the same dumb joke about not knowing what a balk is, just to backtrack in 2 days when jomboy releases the video.

  10. 3rd base called it off screen before he even threw it. I’m here and thought he balked earlier but there was no one on base so it wasn’t called. I’m not surprised he got called for it.

On second thought, let’s not go to Denver. It is a silly place.

  12. Murdoc1984

Clear balk. He stops mid delivery. His normal pitching motion is one fluid motion. Is he wants to throw off Ohtani’s timing, he should slide step.

  13. Jon_ofAllTrades

I’m not going to pretend to understand the balk rules, but I think the fact that it was (a) immediately called by the 2nd base umpire and (b) also immediately noticed by base runners means it’s probably not that controversial of a call.

  14. voodoodahl

I refuse to pass judgment until Jomboy makes a 10 minute long video about this.

  15. ProcessTruster

The Rockies manager didn’t turn into a tomato and spit in the umpire’s face?

  16. Extrovert_HSP

Perfect place to ask this … my husband is a lo g time baseball (⚾️ ) fan … b it he & I are puzzled as to what the 1/2, 1/2 is in the bottom right of the screen stat info … PLEASE help …

  17. BuckshotLeFunk

Sadly, that would be the only run they scored. Bases loaded, nobody out, Rushing, Ohtani, and Call coming up.

  18. rhombecka

Am I losing my mind or does the pitcher clearly pump his front foot? This feels like a clear balk to me and others are saying they can’t tell.

  19. GatorD42

I see that step back but is that not part of his pitching motion?
