    The whole coaching staff was hired in the offseason. These are all Stearns hirings. The Red Sox had a power struggle of ideas of guys Breslow didn’t pick. I don’t know nearly as much about the Phillies situation. What are the Mets going to gain? It’s just a different monkey pulling the levers.

    The team is 11.5 games out of 1st place in the NL East, 8 games out of the last wild card spot, with a historically bad offense, and an increasingly injured roster. Those gaps are only going to get bigger as the season goes on. The reality is that it doesn’t actually matter when Mendoza gets fired. Tomorrow, two weeks from now, in October, the season isn’t going to get saved.

    I could see Stearns and Mendoza going out together late in the season when the team starts to get ready for the off season.

    I think the guy who should be fired is the mf who’s had probably the biggest leash on payroll any GM has ever had for a team, and has put together the worst team in mlb with it.

    To his credit, it’s not exclusively his fault that the team has been playing like trash. Some of his in-game decisions haven’t helped to minimize the damage, but ultimately the primary issue with the Mets isn’t Mendoza.
