Good reminder that the umps want full ABS.
It’s a tough job and they are going to make mistakes. Bunt likely contributed here.
I laughed the other night when an ump challenged his own call. 🙂
Obviously a lot of the talk around ABS is avoiding the bad calls in the big moments, but it’s also great for the small moments like this. With an attempt at a bunt that blocks the line of sight of the umpire, it’s totally forgivable for him to miss the call and now it can be amended.
ABS has skyrocketed Jeffer’s value. I’m gonna miss him when he’s gone
Ump was like, bro why did you catch it like that if it was so far in the zone lol
« welp guess i missed that one »
Jeffers probably said “I screwed you there”
Insane reverse frame job by Jeffers
I want someone to challenge one right down broadway. Jazz maybe?
If you ever needed to teach a kid how not to frame a pitch, show this video.
I’ve noticed a bunch of times that the umps that get bitchy about challenges are the ones that are widely known to suck (ex: CB), and the generally decent umps are fine. I really wonder if it goes to a deeper attitude about the role of an umpire. The crappy ones seem to really believe their job is to completely decide the game and never be questioned. The good umps know that their job is just to be there to make sure that what the rulebook says is what gets called and otherwise not be a part of the show.
The challenge system has been so fun, and the fact that players get it wrong all the time is a reminder that it also isn’t fair to expect umpires to be 100% accurate.
Everyone is having so much fun with ABS challenges!
But the Giants are terrible at it.
That was the opposite of framing
